\nThis transitional program is a fast track to the ICU and is designed to equip you with the skills that you need to become a successful ICU nurse. In this time, it is our goal to help build the foundation, knowledge, and skill sets required when caring for the diverse and high-acuity patient population.
\nAbout the units:
\nUnit 4D/5D are medical cardiology units, each with 18 telemetry beds in private rooms. We care for patients with various cardiac diagnoses, including heart failure, pulmonary arterial hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, cardiac rhythm disturbances, cardiac catheterization, post-pacemaker/ICD placement, and preparing patients for heart transplant and/or LVAD placement. The culture on 4D/5D is one that emphasizes patient education, encouraging lifestyle changes that will have a positive impact on heart disease as well as promoting home care.
\nUnit 9D is a 17-bed cardiothoracic transplant unit caring for patients recovering from heart and/or lung transplants, and who receive support from a ventricular assist device; we also receive overflow cardiology patients. On 9D, we pride ourselves on creating a highly collaborative environment for our nurses and multidisciplinary team.
\nThe Cardiac ICU is a 10-bed critical care facility primarily caring for adult patients with acute cardiac diseases and conditions. Patient treatment frequently encompasses other specialties including pulmonary, oncology, renal, gastrointestinal, and vascular surgical to name a few. Our patients commonly suffer from conditions including myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure, and life-threatening arrhythmia. The CICU service team includes residents on internal medicine rotations, cardiology fellows, and an attending physician.
\nThe Cardiothoracic ICU is a 20-bed critical care facility specializing in care for adult and geriatric patients recovering from open heart surgery, heart and/or lung transplant, thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery. Our surgical teams are closely involved in a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to patient management.
